Shockwave Therapy
What is Shockwave Therapy?
When an injury occurs within the body, it activates a series of healing mechanisms aimed at naturally repairing tissue, bones, cells, and other affected areas. However, in the case of chronic pain, the body often stops recognizing the injury, leading to a halt in the healing process. This results in persistent pain with no relief.
Shockwave therapy, offered by Pairmore & Young: Synergy Chiropractic, works by delivering targeted energy deep into soft tissue, creating microtraumas or triggering a fresh inflammatory response in the area. This “new injury” re-engages the body’s natural healing processes. The energy released stimulates the soft tissue cells to release specific biochemicals, further accelerating healing and promoting the formation of new microscopic blood vessels.
The powerful energy pulses are applied to the affected area in short bursts, stimulating cells that are crucial for healing bone and connective tissues. In many cases, shockwave therapy has shown effectiveness where the body has been unable to heal on its own.
The Treatment Process
During the treatment, the practitioner will begin by applying ultrasound gel to the affected area. The applicator is then positioned to deliver ballistic waves—compressed air impulses—over the injury in a gentle, circular motion. While most patients may experience mild discomfort during the session, adjustments will be made to minimize any pain. Some soreness may occur in the days following the treatment, akin to the feeling after an intensive workout.

Dr. Young’s Success Story with Shockwave Therapy
“After 45 years of active practice, I have developed a set of chronic annoying pains associated with caring for patients over the decades. I have used the new ShockWave therapy on them and what do you know, they are tons better. Shoulder pain in both shoulders with associated arthritic changes on x-ray, 90% gone and no pain at night now. Chronic pain in both thumbs and wrists again with associated findings in radiology and swelling, 90% gone. No more aching through the night. Right knee pain with my “trick” knee that just shows up after a day in the office, no more. And I don’t miss it.
Just for the record, we have never implemented procedures into the practice that have not been super helpful to friends, family or ourselves and this one is a great benefit I can tell you about firsthand. Patients have received very good results as well. I encourage you to try it out here in the office. ”
